Sony Euro Boss: 'Get Games From BitTorrent if You Want To'

Offers a solution to criticisms of 4-5 month delays of PAL region games arriving in far off "down under" locales like New Zealand and Australia, even going so far as to suggest users "download PSP games, it's up to you."
Apparently Sony gamers "down under" in New Zealand and Australia are so far removed from their European cousins that they regularly experience 4-5 month delays in getting shipments of new PAL region game release titles.

French Minister Pushes for Mandatory ISP Level P2P Filtering Across Europe

If there is anything that file-sharing filtering programs haven't proven, is 100% effectiveness. In spite of the lack of evidence, that isn't stopping one minister from pushing for a European law that would force ISPs to implement such technology.

It may be the first time many in English speaking circles have even heard of the Hadopi law model, but the name may soon become more familiar if it is successfully placed into a law proposal after the talks with the European parliament. The EDRI has provided extensive coverage on the issue that is very noteworthy.

Another Critical ACTA Leak Surfaces

While many within ACTA have been trying to operate in as much secrecy as possible, there seems to be a few who wants ACTA to be more open. It's certainly justifiable considering a vast majority of people to be affected by this might otherwise be completely in the dark.

Yesterday, we reported on the new movement to restrict copyright in the United States. At the time, the Electronic Frontier Foundation said that the new proposal to restrict copyright laws in the United States further combined with the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) would mean a catastrophe for American citizens.

Digital Frisking for Copyright Infringement at US Border Disclosed

It may have been little more then an intimidating demand from businesses at ACTA negotiations, but now the Department of Homeland Security is saying that copying hard drives and iPods at the US border is now part of border security policy without suspicion of wrongdoing.

Bell Canada to Cap Competition to as Low as 2GB a Month Down Per User

You know competition is almost non-existent when one 'competitor' can decide what other competitors can and cannot do in the market.

Just when Bell thought the controversy and bad publicity around it's company couldn't get any worse, it did. The CBC is reporting that Bell Canada is now going to put download limits on its own wholesalers.

If you haven't been keeping up with the net neutrality debate, things were rather quiet up until October of this last year. That's not to say this lull reflected a lack of interest. Rather, the debate shifted gears and impacted the Internet population in a manner many can relate to; a widely used P2P protocol called BitTorrent.

RIAA - FCC Ruling Means ISPs Can Filter Piracy Like Everyone Else

We already noted that there is a lot of confusion surrounding the FCC ruling to "punish" Comcast, but we have just learned that the RIAA has some of their own strange comments on the matter.

FCC - Comcast Was Wrong to Throttle, but Prioritizing Packets is Fine

It seems like a victory for many to see Comcast punished for throttling BitTorrent, but now it seems the FCC has become confused about what to do at this point on the case.

There was already word that there is some dissent on the FCC ruling over throttling BitTorrent, but commentary from CNET seems to point out that there is much more going on at the FCC then originally thought.

Apparently, after the FCC issued a press release on the matter (DOC, PDF), Comcast basically cried foul over it - no fines, just a measly press release.

The last week of July will leave a lasting impression on the net neutrality debate and the development of file-sharing technology. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin handed net neutrality supporters a firm victory over Comcast, forcing the ISP to implement a revised network management policy.

EFF Releases 'Switzerland' to Test if Your ISP is Throttling BitTorrent

Network testing tool able to detect packet modifications in any protocol - TCP reset packets or web page modifications, and isn't limited to BitTorrent or any other specific application.
With the FCC finally determining that Comcast improperly throttled BitTorrent traffic in violation of its open-Internet principles there is now a very real need for a practical and convenient method to make sure that ISPs don't try it again.
"Subscribers should be able to go where they want, when they want, and generally use the Internet in any legal means," FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said in a statement.
